Dans cette œuvre est évoqué le thème de la vie et de la mort ainsi que celui de l’abstraction de la croyance. L’idée de cette vanité étant de faire écho à notre ephéméréité.

L’artiste nous rappelle le caractère unique de la vie et de la mystification des croyances qui fondent l’espoir d’une existence au-delà des banalités matérielles. Selon Sébastien Dominici, la croyance sert de moteur à l’existence tant elle lui donne un sens, amène à réaliser des actions concrètes et veut espérer la prolonger au-delà du réel. Le rond rouge qui brille au centre du crane évoque le troisième œil, l’éveil aux choses magiques et fantastiques qui se rapprochent des croyances de nos sociétés. Le thème de la vanité de l’homme est un thème classique de l’histoire de l’art que l’artiste reprend ici dans sa conception la plus pure.

La question posée étant : l’homme est-il une denrée périssable ou se renouvelle-t-il tel un arbre qui revient à la terre à la fin de sa vie ?

The red circle shining in the centre of the skull evokes the third eye, the awakening to magical and fantastic things that are close to the beliefs of our societies. The theme of man's vanity is a classic theme in the history of art, which the artist takes up here in its purest conception.

The question is: is man a perishable commodity or does he renew himself like a tree that returns to the earth at the end of its life?
